Black Box - A New Australian Musical Based On A True Story

An innovative Australian musical inspired by real events:

Meet David Warren, the man behind a life-saving invention you've likely never heard of. "Black Box," the latest creation by Queenslander Paul Hodge, delves into the remarkable journey of David Warren, the Australian innovator who revolutionized air travel with his invention: the black box flight recorder.

Motivated by the tragic loss of his father in a mysterious plane crash during his childhood, David embarks on a relentless pursuit to develop a device capable of recording crucial flight data before disasters strike. But his fixation on this invention jeopardizes his career, marriage, and sanity. "Black Box" is a poignant exploration of memory, loss, and the bonds we cling to and release.

Composer and playwright Paul Hodge draws parallels between David's passion for innovation and his own creative process, infusing the production with recorded voices and music to envelop audiences in David's world of sound.

Leading the cast is the internationally acclaimed Michael Cormick as David Warren, alongside Helen Dallimore portraying Ruth, David's devoted wife. Supported by a talented ensemble including Bernard Curry, Bryan Probets, Hugh Parker, Liz Buchan, and Elliot Baker, the production immerses audiences in a groundbreaking auditory experience. In a theatrical first, "Black Box" utilizes binaural recording technology, enabling audience members to don headphones and step into a 360-degree sonic landscape, courtesy of director David Berthold.

With original music, including the captivating "A New Era" performed by Dami Im of X Factor and Eurovision fame, "Black Box" promises to be a theatrical event like no other, inviting audiences to witness the power of innovation and the resonance of human connection.
