Fellowship Diploma of Vocology

Vocologists are voice specialists who are extensively trained in voice habilitation and mobilisation techniques. This is the most advanced, difficult program offered by the Australian College of Vocal Arts (ACVA). This terminal program is purpose-built for established and advanced singing, acting, and speech and drama teachers. The program consists of practical and written components, and it presents you with the most recent scientific and pedagogical research to improve your singing teaching practice.

What You’ll Study

Delivered intensively through a series of online live lectures, seminars, workshops, and 1:1 sessions. You can expect to study:

  • Vocal habilitation/mobilisation techniques, tools and approaches

  • The singing and speaking voice

  • Critical pedagogy

  • Advanced voice science, anatomy and physiology

  • Vocal and voice-related pathological presentations and case management

  • Repertoire selection to support proper voice habilitation

  • Specialist curriculum design and lesson planning

  • Transgender voice development strategies

  • Specialist teaching portfolio development (including transgender voices)

  • Supervised in-clinic teaching

  • Vocal deficiencies and technique disturbances

  • Teaching voice to people with a disability

  • Audition, exam and performance preparation strategies.

Your Career Opportunities

There is an identified shortage of professionally trained and skilled vocal performers and singing teachers throughout Australia. At the same time, there is an increasing number of live productions and bands being toured, providing an ever-increasing demand for vocal arts product.

As a successful graduate, you will have honed your skills in advanced singing teaching and vocal habilitation strategies, and you will be able to safely and effectively teach students with complex vocal health needs.

You will have graduated with Australia’s only industry-based professional vocology certification, which represents and reflects the high professional standards you strive for in your specialist teaching practice. You will effectively advance your ability to teach specialist lessons to individuals and small groups, within a variety of settings.
